Athletes respond on Twitter to Kaepernick’s protest

Athletes everywhere are weighing in on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick refusing to stand for the national anthem during the preseason, along with his reasoning that he won't "stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color."

There were a divided set of opinions -- some defended his right to free speech, while others completely disagreed. Here's a look at the reaction from fellow NFL players - both current and retired -- and athletes elsewhere:

This has nothing to do with racism but everything to do with #kaepernicksucks being butt hurt for being beat out as QB by a guy who happens to be White! #kaepernicksucks career is over! I wouldn't want him representing my team and it's not because he's Black, it's because he's stupid and just happens to be Black! There is a big difference people and racism will never change unless we all see the difference not the color of one's skin!
